The 2019 film Spies in Disguise was near completion when Disney bough Fox so they allowed it to release while all the other in-development films, excluding Ice Age 6, were scrapped since Disney didn’t want another animation department competing with their previously existing ones. Despite being the worst rated by both critics and audiences, Ice Age: Collision Course still made $408.5 Million. The Project was one of many in-development films at BlueSky but was selected to not be canceled due to Ice Age being one of their top franchises. With most of BlueSky’s Staff now gone the project is a co-development between 20th Century Animation (the parent studio of BlueSky) and Disney themselves. Despite the untimely death of BlueSky Animation at the hands of Disney via the Fox Acquisition a sixth, and presumably final film, in the Ice Age franchise is still in development with a 2022 release date on Disney Plus. For those who may have forgotten, yes, Ice Age 6 is happening.
